West Zeeland is facing socio-economic problems: the viability of the area has decreased due to aging, inefficient public transportation and declined employment. The Executive Council of Zeeland plans to give new perspectives to the area by stimulating the local economy and improving the environmental qualities of the Westerschelde.

The Waterdunen project collects these dual opportunities and organizes the 250 acres large salty park around surprising water-works, nutrition and nesting conveniences for shorebirds, recreation by the beaches and enjoyment to discover and engage with nature and its bird life.
Study models of the pavilions
Together with its Team, XCOOP contributes by adding five eye-catcher architectures fostering understanding, experience and involvement with the space.

The total investment of about 200 million euros is to be covered by a combination of private (market) and public (government) funds.
