IRON LINK, NEWARK VISITOR CENTER, Competition, Newark, USA (2009)
The Iron Link re-envisions the role of a visitor center. Instead of a single static structure dispensing information to a visitor/consumer, the Iron Link engages both the visitor and the community. A flexible open space at street level, connecting the river to the street, with urban amenity blocks above. The Iron Link engages Newark and the Passaic river in different ways; with a hotel tower, bridging auditorium, floating visitor center and a restaurant block. Water taxi and bus terminals connect the Iron Link to the city. The Iron Link will sustain the city by providing a high tech urban square where guests and residents may experiment, interact and create. Socially, this generates solutions for new businesses to revitalize the city and clean the environment sustaining the community into a prosperus future.
